The Philadelphia Phillies placed right-hander Corey Knebel on the COVID-related injured list Tuesday and recalled left-hander Jeff Singer from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Knebel, 30, pitched in relief in each of this season’s first two games and earned the save in Saturday’s 4-2 defeat of the Oakland A’s. He has allowed one unearned run and one hit in two innings, striking out three and walking one.

He owns a 10-11 record with 61 saves and a 3.20 ERA in 268 games (four starts) with the Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers, Los Angeles Dodgers and Phillies. He was an All-Star with Milwaukee in 2017.

Philadelphia on Monday became the first major U.S. city to reinstate indoor mask mandates following a sharp rise in coronavirus infections.

Singer, 28, is a Philadelphia native who has yet to make his major league debut. He is 1-0 this year at Lehigh Valley and has walked four batters in four hitless, scoreless innings.

The club also announced that outfielder Odubel Herrera (oblique strain) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday at Class A Clearwater.

Herrera, 30, batted .260 with 13 homers and 51 RBIs in 124 games with the Phillies in 2021.
