Vasquez gave up nine runs and 11 hits over 4 1/3 innings in an 11-4 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 31 in his last major league start.

Jacob, 26, had a 2.45 ERA in seven relief appearances for the Padres, who will open the National League playoffs on Tuesday in the wild-card round.
