The San Diego Padres placed left-handed reliever Tom Cosgrove on the 15-day injured list on Friday because of left elbow inflammation.

In corresponding moves, the Padres selected left-hander Austin Davis from Triple-A El Paso and transferred right-hander Joe Musgrove (right elbow inflammation) from the 15- to the 60-day IL to make room for Davis on the 40-man roster.

Cosgrove, 28, allowed four runs on two hits and a walk and hit one batter in 1/3 of an inning against the Washington Nationals on Wednesday. The move to the IL is retroactive to Thursday.

He is 0-1 with an 11.66 ERA, six walks, 15 strikeouts and 23 hits allowed in 14 2/3 innings over 18 appearances this season. In his first season in 2023, Cosgrove was 1-2 with one save, a 1.75 ERA, 19 walks, 44 strikeouts and 31 hits yielded in 51 1/3 innings (54 appearances).

Davis, 31, has not pitched in the major leagues since 2022 with the Minnesota Twins. He has a 4-5 record with a 5.61 ERA over 136 games (three starts) in parts of five seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies, Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox and Twins.

He signed a minor league contract with San Diego after a strong winter league stint in the Dominican Republic. Davis was 2-3 with eight saves in 10 opportunities, a 3.10 ERA, 16 walks and 37 strikeouts in 29 innings over 29 games with El Paso.

“Obviously excited to be back in the big leagues, back at Fenway,” said Davis, who joined the Padres for games in Boston. “My role? Just, obviously, get outs. Keep those other guys in the bullpen down in the bullpen and not coming in for me. As long as I can take the innings that I’m supposed to take, let our studs be studs.”
