The San Diego Padres added veteran catcher Jorge Alfaro in a Tuesday trade, agreeing to send cash or a player to be named to the Miami Marlins.
Alfaro, 28, spent the past three seasons with Miami after opening his major league career by playing three seasons with the Philadelphia Phillies.
In 2021, Alfaro hit .244 with a .283 on-base percentage, a .342 slugging percentage, four homers and 30 RBIs in 92 games.
His best season was 2019, when he batted .262 with 18 home runs and 57 RBIs in 130 games for Miami.
In 396 career games, Alfaro has a career .258 average with a .309 on-base percentage, a .399 slugging percentage, 40 homers and 154 RBIs.
With the Padres, Alfaro joins a catching corps that includes Austin Nola and Victor Caratini.
