Albert Suarez didn’t allow a run in 5 2/3 innings to extend his scoreless streak, but the Baltimore Orioles didn’t seal a 4-2 victory against the Los Angeles Angels until Craig Kimbrel struck out Mike Trout with the bases loaded to end the series opener on Monday in Anaheim, Calif.

James McCann and Colton Cowser homered for the Orioles, who won their third game in a row and improved to 7-1 in their past eight games.

Jo Adell homered, Logan O’Hoppe rapped three hits and Zach Neto had two hits for the Angels, but the team’s losing streak reached five games. On Sunday, Los Angeles was shut out at Cincinnati.

Angels starter Reid Detmers (3-1) gave up four runs on six hits in seven innings. He struck out four and walked three in his longest 2024 outing.

Suarez (1-0), a 34-year-old right-hander, gave up four hits and walked two while striking out five. He also threw 5 2/3 shutout innings last week against Minnesota in his first outing in the major leagues since 2017.

Four Baltimore pitchers followed Suarez, with Kimbrel working the ninth for his sixth save.

There was some suspense when Adell was hit by a pitch to lead off the ninth and O’Hoppe followed with a single. Pinch hitter Luis Rengifo drew a one-out walk to load the bases. Nolan Schanuel popped out before Trout came to the plate.

Trout went down on four pitches, never swinging the bat.

Adley Rutschman provided two run-scoring hits and Gunnar Henderson also had two hits for the Orioles.

Baltimore pieced together a 4-0 lead by scoring a run in four of the first seven innings.

McCann’s first home run of the season came in the second inning. Rutschman singled in a run in the third and doubled home a run with two outs in the fifth.

The margin grew to four runs on Cowser’s sixth homer of the season in the seventh.

Adell’s second home run of the season came leading off the bottom of the seventh inning against reliever Mike Baumann. Schanuel added an RBI single off Yennier Cano later in the frame.
