Left-hander Brad Hand agreed to a one-year, $6 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies, ESPN reported on Monday.
Hand, 31, posted a 6-7 record with 21 saves and a 3.90 ERA in 68 appearances (all relief) with the Toronto Blue Jays, Washington Nationals and New York Mets last season.
A three-time All-Star, Hand owns a 32-50 mark with 126 saves and a 3.68 ERA in 464 career appearances (43 starts) with the Florida/Miami Marlins, San Diego Padres, then-Cleveland Indians, Nationals, Blue Jays and Mets.
–Left-hander Sean Doolittle is back in the Nationals bullpen, agreeing to a one-year contract.
The Nationals also agreed to a one-year deal with right-hander Anibal Sanchez, MLB Network reported.
Doolittle, a two-time All-Star, split the 2021 season between the Cincinnati Reds and Seattle Mariners.
He has 112 career saves — 75 of them with the Nationals, who acquired Doolittle in 2017 from the Oakland Athletics at the trade deadline — but a combined 4.71 ERA in the past two seasons.
Sanchez signed a minor-league deal with Washington.
The 38-year-old can make up to $2 million if he stays on the roster. General manager Mike Rizzo attended a showcase for Sanchez on Saturday and came away impressed.
Over his 15-year MLB career, Sanchez has a record of 112-113 and a 4.05 ERA. He was 4-5 (6.62 ERA) with the Nationals in 2020 and did not play last season.
–The Chicago White Sox and right-handed reliever Joe Kelly agreed to terms on a two-year, $17 million contract.
Per the White Sox, Kelly will receive $7 million in 2022 and $9 million in 2023. The team also will hold a $9.5-million option for 2024 with a $1 million buyout.
Kelly, 33, posted a 2-0 record with two saves and a 2.86 ERA in 48 relief appearances last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Also on Monday, the White Sox and right-hander Vince Velasquez agreed to a one-year, $3 million deal.
Velasquez, 29, went 3-9 with a 6.30 ERA in 25 games (21 starts) last season split between the Philadelphia Phillies and San Diego Padres.
–Catcher Robinson Chirinos signed a one-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles.
Financial terms were not disclosed by the club.
Chirinos, 37, batted .227 with five homers and 15 RBIs in 45 games last season with the Chicago Cubs.
