The Seattle Mariners placed second baseman Jorge Polanco on the 10-day injured list Monday, one day after the 30-year-old left a game due to right hamstring tightness.

Polanco was injured while running out a single in the fourth inning of Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals. He exited after the fifth inning.

Polanco had missed seven straight games earlier in May after injuring the same hamstring against the Kansas City Royals on May 13. He returned to the lineup on May 22 against the New York Yankees.

Polanco is batting just .195 with five homers and 14 RBIs in 46 games in his first season with the Mariners. He was acquired from the Minnesota Twins in the offseason.

Polanco has a .265 average with 117 homers and 461 RBIs in 878 games with the Twins (2014-23) and Mariners. He was an All-Star in 2019 and smacked a career-high 33 homers in 2021.

Seattle recalled speedy infielder Ryan Bliss from Tacoma in a corresponding move. He was batting .247 with seven homers and 35 RBIs in 50 games and his 28 steals lead all Triple-A players.

Bliss will make his major league debut on Monday against the Houston Astros. He is slated to play second base and bat eighth.

The Mariners recalled outfielder Sam Haggerty (Achilles) from Tacoma and placed him on the 60-day IL to open a 40-man roster spot for Bliss. Haggerty was injured in a Triple-A game on May 18.
