The Seattle Mariners placed Jarred Kelenic on the 10-day injured list with a fractured left foot on Thursday and recalled fellow outfielder Cade Marlowe from Triple-A Tacoma.

Kelenic was seen in a walking boot on Thursday, one day after he kicked a water cooler in frustration following a strikeout in the ninth inning of the Mariners’ 6-3 loss to the Minnesota Twins.

“I let the emotions get the best of me there,” Kelenic said through tears before Thursday’s series finale. “I feel terrible. Especially for the guys. I let the emotions get the best of me, and I just let them down. I take full responsibility for it.

“It’s on me. It just can’t happen.”

Kelenic, 24, is hitting .252 with 11 homers and 45 RBIs in 90 games this season.

He is hitting .201 with 32 homers and 105 RBIs in 237 career games with Seattle.

The injury occurred after Kelenic came up with two on and no one out in the ninth inning. He struck out looking on the ninth pitch he saw from Twins closer Jhoan Duran.

“We came up last night with the game on the line, two guys on against arguably the best closer in baseball. I put together a good at bat, was just grinding,” Kelenic said. And unfortunately, I couldn’t come through. And I made a mistake.”

The Mariners acquired Kelenic from the Mets as part of a trade in December 2018 that sent Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz to New York.

Marlowe, 26, made his major league debut against the Twins on Thursday and start in left field.

He batted .255 with one homer, 47 RBIs and 25 stolen bases in 63 games with Tacoma this season. He has hit safely in 22 of his last 24 games.

Wednesday’s loss was the fourth in six games for the Mariners, who are in the midst of a 10-game homestand following the All-Star break.

“I love to win, I’m a huge competitor. And that’s the hardest part, now I can’t be out there to help the guys,” Kelenic said. “And that’s my fault.”
