The bottom two hitters in Seattle’s lineup drove in four runs and Logan Gilbert became the third Major League pitcher to win 10 games this season as the visiting Mariners defeated the Padres 6-2 to complete a two-game sweep in San Diego, Calif.

Dylan Moore and Sam Haggerty, respectively, the eighth and ninth hitters in the Mariners’ batting order, each drove in two runs.

The Mariners are 7-1 over their last eight games and have won five straight series. The Padres are 2-8 over their last 10 games.

The Mariners took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third when Haggerty lined a two-out homer into the seats just inside the right field foul pole off Padres starter and loser Mike Clevinger (2-1). The homer was Haggerty’s first since April 24, 2021.

After the Padres tied the game with an unearned run against Gilbert in the bottom of the third, Seattle scored three in top of the fourth — the rally starting with two out and no one on.

Abraham Toro drew a walk from Clevinger to start the rally. Adam Frazier followed with a single to right with Toro moving to third. Dylan Moore then broke the 1-1 tie, lining a double inside the third base bag, scoring both Toro and Frazier as the ball rolled into the corner to give Seattle a 3-1 lead. Haggerty then singled home Moore.

The Mariners added two more two-out runs in the top of the ninth off San Diego closer Taylor Rogers.

Gilbert improved to 10-3 on the season by holding the Padres to two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with one strikeout in 5 1/3 innings. Clevinger gave up four runs on six hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings.

The Padres missed an opportunity in the second inning when singles by Luke Voit, Eric Hosmer and Nomar Mazara loaded the bases with no one out. But Austin Nola grounded into a forceout at home and Gilbert retired the next two hitters on fly balls.
