San Francisco Giants second baseman Tommy La Stella underwent a surgical procedure on his left Achilles that could have him back on the field at some point during spring training.

The Giants estimated recovery time at four months, much less than the 12 months a full Achilles repair takes. Teams report to spring training in the middle of February.

La Stella, 32, batted .250 with seven home runs and 27 RBIs in 76 games this past season, his first with the Giants. He missed three months with a hamstring strain. In five games of the National League Division Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, he was 3-for-9 with two walks and a run scored.

In eight seasons with five different teams, La Stella is a .270 hitter with 38 home runs and 190 RBIs. The eighth-round draft pick by the Atlanta Braves in 2011 was named an American League All-Star in 2019 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels.
