Luis Severino and three relievers combined on a four-hit shutout Saturday as the visiting New York Mets edged the Miami Marlins 1-0.

Severino (7-3) worked the first six innings, permitting only two hits and walking three while striking out seven. Jose Butto and Dedniel Nunez teed up the ninth inning for Edwin Diaz, who closed it out in 1-2-3 fashion for his 11th save in 16 chances.

Roddery Munoz (1-5) absorbed the loss despite pitching well in five innings. He gave up three hits and a run, walking three and fanning five. Still, the Marlins fell 30 games under .500 at 34-64.

The game’s only run came in the fourth. Pete Alonso doubled to the left field wall with one out, Mark Vientos was hit by a pitch and DJ Stewart walked to fill the bases. The run scored on Francisco Alvarez’s grounder to shortstop Xavier Edwards, who made a diving stop and got the out at second base.

New York’s Jose Iglesias and Miami’s Jesus Sanchez were the only players for either team with two hits. The teams combined for just 10 hits and neither one excelled in situational hitting. Both teams went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and each left 10 men aboard.

Severino didn’t give up much solid contact in his outing, although he had to work through three jams. In the first, Miami put two on with two outs after Josh Bell walked and Jake Burger singled, but Sanchez grounded out.

Alonso’s throwing error on a possible double play ball in the fourth gave the Marlins two on with one out. However, a fielder’s choice grounder by Nick Gordon and Severino’s strikeout of Edwards left men at the corners.

In the sixth, Severino made his own trouble by hitting Burger with one out and walking Lopez with two outs. But he finished his outing in style by getting Gordon to swing through a 97 mph fastball for strike three.
