The Cleveland Guardians selected the contract of left-hander Anthony Gose from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday and optioned left-hander Logan Allen to Triple-A.

To make room on the 40-man roster for Gose, right-hander Xzavion Curry was designated for assignment.

Gose, 33, originally was a center fielder when he was drafted in the second round by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2008. He has 372 games of major league experience as a position player from 2012-16 with the Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers, hitting 12 home runs with 69 RBIs, while also stealing 57 bases.

Now a pitcher, Gose has 28 games of experience on the mound for the Guardians, including 22 games in relief in 2022. He has a career 3.90 ERA in the major leagues.

Allen, 25, was called up to start Monday’s game against the Arizona Diamondbacks and gave up two runs on five hits in five innings of a no-decision. In 19 starts this season, Allen is 8-4 with a 5.56 ERA.

Curry, 26, went 0-2 with a 5.84 ERA in seven appearances (four starts) with Cleveland this season. He is 3-7 with a 4.53 ERA in 50 appearances (15 starts) for the Guardians over the past three seasons.
