The Los Angeles Dodgers placed outfielder Kevin Pillar on the 10-day injured list Thursday because of a fractured left shoulder.
To replace him, the Dodgers called up infielder/outfielder Zach McKinstry from Triple-A Oklahoma City.
Pillar was injured while trying to scamper back to third base in the fifth inning of Wednesday night’s 8-4 home loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates. It was just his fourth game since being recalled from Oklahoma City, and he had just doubled for his first hit in 12 at-bats with the team.
“On a swing, I think in that at-bat, his left shoulder came out and then came back in,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after Wednesday’s game. “He’s dislocated it before and had surgery. And then on the slide, the same thing happened.”
Pillar, 33, signed a minor league with the Dodgers during spring training. Los Angeles marks his sixth team in his 10 big-league seasons. The veteran has a career .259 batting average with 97 home runs, 391 RBIs and 92 stolen bases over 1,033 games.
McKinstry, 27, was hitting .338 with a pair of homers and 19 RBIs in 38 games with Oklahoma City this season. He has played in two games with the Dodgers this season, going 0-for-1 in his only action at the plate.
He spent the bulk of the 2021 season with the big club, hitting .215 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 60 games with Los Angeles.
