The Chicago Cubs placed reliever Colten Brewer on the 15-day injured list and recalled fellow right-hander Porter Hodge from Triple-A Iowa on Friday.

Brewer, 31, has a low back strain and his IL designation is retroactive to Tuesday. He has no decisions and a 3.09 ERA in seven appearances this season, striking out 12 batters in 11 2/3 innings.

Brewer is 2-5 with a 4.78 ERA in 91 career appearances (four starts) with the San Diego Padres (2018), Boston Red Sox (2019-21), New York Yankees (2023) and Cubs.

Hodge, 23, has yet to make his major league debut. He is 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA in 12 relief appearances this season between Iowa and Double-A Tennessee.

The Cubs drafted Hodge in the 13th round in 2019.
