The opener of the three-game series between the Atlanta Braves and St. Louis Cardinals was postponed on Friday because of heavy rain in the Atlanta area.

The game will be made up on Saturday as part of a split double-header. The first game will begin at 1 p.m. local time with the nightcap scheduled for 7:20 p.m.

Officials waited more than two hours before making the decision on Friday, but the weather forecast did not improve.

The game was the first for both teams since the All-Star Game. The Cardinals won two of three against the Braves last month in St. Louis. That series also included a doubleheader forced by a postponement.
