The St. Louis Cardinals acquired minor league infielder Jose Fermin from the Cleveland Guardians on Wednesday for cash considerations.

Fermin, 23, batted .215 with six home runs and 31 RBIs in 90 games at Triple-A Columbus in 2022. He finished with 42 walks and 46 strikeouts.

The Dominican Republic native had been in Cleveland’s farm system since 2015. He was voted the organization’s best defensive infielder by Baseball America in 2019 and has appeared in 177 games at second base, 117 at shortstop and 104 at third base.

The Cardinals also reinstated right-handers Alex Reyes and Drew VerHagen from the 60-day injured list, bringing their 40-man roster to 38 players.
