The Atlanta Braves placed right-hander Charlie Morton on the 15-day injured list on Sunday with inflammation in the index finger on his pitching hand.
The move for Morton is retroactive to Saturday.
Also on Sunday, the Braves recalled rookie right-hander Allan Winans from Triple-A Gwinnett to start the opening game of a doubleheader against the Washington Nationals.
Morton, 39, is 14-12 with a 3.64 ERA in 30 appearances (all starts) this season. He is 130-113 with a 4.00 ERA in 353 career appearances (352 starts) with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Philadelphia Phillies, Houston Astros, Tampa Bay Rays and Braves.
Winans, 28, is 1-1 with a 4.50 ERA in four appearances (all starts) with Atlanta this season. He has yet to face the Nationals in his career.
