Houston Astros right-hander Oliver Ortega had a second surgery on his pitching elbow this week and will not appear in a game this season.

Ortega, 27, made a pair of spring training appearances for the Astros before undergoing surgery in March to remove loose bodies in his right elbow. On Wednesday, he had another surgery to remove a bone spur in the elbow.

Ortega went 0-1 with a 4.30 ERA in 10 relief appearances for the Minnesota Twins last season before he was claimed off waivers by the Astros in October.

In three seasons with the Los Angeles Angels and Twins, Ortega is 2-4 with a 4.03 ERA in 45 relief appearances.
