Houston catcher Jason Castro was removed from the Astros’ roster before Game 4 of the World Series on Saturday because of COVID-19 safety protocols.
Garrett Stubbs replaced Castro on the active roster for Game 4. Astros general manager James Click did not say whether Castro tested positive for the coronavirus, but a report from a Houston television station indicated that Castro did test positive.
The 34-year-old Castro has appeared in six games during the 2021 postseason. He is 2-for-7 with a homer and two RBIs.
Stubbs, 28, has appeared in one career playoff game and did not record an at-bat. He has hit .182 with six RBIs in 51 career regular-season games.
Martin Maldonado started at catcher for Houston in Game 4. Stubbs was available off the bench.
