The Los Angeles Angels and general manager Perry Minasian reached an agreement on a contract extension through the 2026 season, the team announced Thursday.

Minasian is nearing the end of his initial four-year deal with the team, signed in November 2020.

The Angels entered Thursday tied with the Oakland Athletics for last place in the American League West at 54-73.

The team has not been competitive during Minasian’s four-year run, following up a 77-85 record in his debut campaign in 2021 with 73-89 finishes in 2022 and 2023.

“Over the last four years, Perry and his baseball operations staff have begun to lay the foundation for a bright future of Angels Baseball,” Angels owner Arte Moreno said in a news release. “We have been impressed by the steps Perry has taken to infuse our major league team with young and exciting talent while also revamping our player development process. We believe this extension will allow him to continue the vision of building sustainable success throughout the Angels Organization and deliver a championship for our fans.”

The Angels have not been to the playoffs since the 2014 season and have not won a playoff game since 2009.

“I am incredibly thankful to Arte and Carole Moreno for their continued trust and support,” Minasian said in the release. “I would also like to thank (team president) John Carpino for the tremendous working relationship we have developed over the last four years, and I look forward to continuing our plans of bringing the Angels back to being a consistent championship contender.”

Minasian began his career in baseball as a clubhouse attendant with the Texas Rangers in 1996. He scouted for the Rangers (2003-09) and Toronto Blue Jays (2009-17) before serving as an assistant general manager with the Atlanta Braves from 2017-20.
