The Los Angeles Angels activated new pitching acquisition Reynaldo Lopez to the active roster Thursday between games of a doubleheader against the host Detroit Tigers.

Lopez was acquired by the Angels on Wednesday along with Lucas Giolito from the Chicago White Sox. To acquire the pair of right-handers, the Angels dealt a pair of top prospects in left-hander Ky Bush and catcher Edgar Quero.

Giolito is reportedly set to be activated Friday in advance of a road series against the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Angels also added right-hander Zack Weiss as the 27th man on the roster for the doubleheader. Right-hander Tucker Davidson was designated for assignment.

Lopez, 29, is 2-5 with a 4.29 ERA and four saves in 43 relief appearances this year. He has played the past seven seasons in Chicago after reaching the major leagues with the Washington Nationals in 2016.

A starting pitcher for most of his first five big-league seasons, Lopez has a career 38-47 record with a 4.42 ERA in 216 games (97 starts).

Weiss, 31, was 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in five relief outings for the Angels earlier this season. He is 1-1 with a 5.50 ERA in 18 career relief outings with the Cincinnati Reds (2018) and Angels (2022-23).

Davidson, 27, was 1-1 with a 6.54 ERA in 18 relief appearances for the Angels this season. He is 3-9 with a 6.15 ERA in 35 career appearances (16 starts) for the Atlanta Braves (2020-22) and Angels.
