LOL: Liquid win LCS Summer Split showdown vs. Immortals

Team Liquid beat Immortals in a battle of unbeaten teams, and Cloud9 also stayed perfect as Week 1 of the League Championship Series Summer Split concluded on Friday.

Liquid needed just 21 minutes on red to get past Immortals and improve to 3-0. The United States’ Sean “Yeon” Sung led Liquid with a 7-0-3 kill-death-assist ratio. Sweden’s Onur Can “Bolulu” Demirol had the lone kill of the match for Immortals.

Cloud9, playing on blue, moved to 3-0 with a 29-minute victory over TSM. South Korea’s Jang “EMENES” Min-soo logged a 6-2-7 K-D-A ratio for Cloud9, while the United States’ David “Insanity” Challe finished at 4-3-2 for TSM.

Dignitas downed previously unbeaten Evil Geniuses in 36 minutes on red. Denmark’s Lucas “Santorin” Tao Kilmer Larsen posted a 5-1-12 K-D-A ratio for Dignitas. Canada’s Joseph Joon “jojopyun” Pyun paced Evil Geniuses at 4-3-6.

Golden Guardians topped FlyQuest in 37 minutes on red. Canada’s Eric “Licorice” Ritchie put up a 5-2-7 K-D-A ratio for Golden Guardians, while China’s Mingyi “Spica” Lu wound up at 7-2-6.

NRG needed 35 minutes on blue to defeat 100 Thieves. The United States’ Juan Arturo “Contractz” Garcia led NRG with a 6-0-9 K-D-A ratio. Another U.S. player, Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng amassed a 2-3-1 K-D-A ratio for 100 Thieves.

The 10 teams in the top North American League of Legends circuit will play every other team twice in the group phase, which runs through July 21. All group-stage matches will consist of a single map.

The first- and second-place teams will head to the upper-bracket semifinals for the double-elimination playoffs. The third- through sixth-place teams will open the playoffs in the upper-bracket quarterfinals. The seventh- and eighth-place teams will enter the postseason in the lower bracket, while the ninth- and 10th-place teams will be eliminated.

The playoffs will feature best-of-five matches. The top three finishers will earn berths in the League of Legends World Championship, to be played in South Korea from Oct. 10 to Nov. 19. The fourth-place finisher will head to a wild-card qualifier with a chance to land a spot at the World Championship.
