Aces were wild Friday as Dale Whitnell tallied two holes-in-one in the second round of the South African Open.

The 36-year-old Englishman aced the 185-yard second hole at the Durban Country Club with a 7-iron and repeated the feat at the 128-yard 12th hole with a wedge.

The estimated odds of making two holes-in-one during the same round are 67 million to one, according to the U.S.-based National Hole-in-One Registry.

Whitnell’s wild round of 9-under 63 also included an eagle, seven birdies, two bogeys and one double bogey. He is tied for eighth at the DP World Tour event at 9-under par.

“I’ve never had one in tournament play. To have two in one day is pretty special,” said Whitnell, who is ranked No. 545 in the world.

“It’s a weird feeling, everything in one. I was excited and adrenalin was pumping, but I had to focus on my job and managed to do that OK.”

Whitnell recorded his only DP World Tour title at the Volvo Car Scandinavian Mixed event in Sweden in June 2023.
