Lasse “MATUMBAMAN” Urpalainen is parting ways with Team Secret after two dominant years with the organization.

Team Secret shook up the Dota 2 Pro Circuit Scene when the European team signed Mutubaman from Team Liquid in November 2019 to replace Yeik “MidOne” Nai Zheng. The new lineup went on to reach its first Top 3 in The International along while also putting together a record 100-game win streak.

Mutubaman did not provide details on what his next move might be.

“Playing with the boys was a blast this past year,” he said in a statement released by the team. “I appreciate each and every one of my (former) teammates, and would count each one of them as a friend.”

With Ludwig “zai” Wahlberg also departing, Team Secret is suddenly down to three players in captain Clement “Puppey” Ivanov along with Michal “Nisha” Jankowski and Yazied “YapzOr” Jaradat ahead of the Nov. 21 roster lock.

“Today we wish farewell to one of the most successful carry players ever to join our ranks,” Team Secret said in a statement. “We thank Matumbaman for being a great teammate, for his consistent motivation through all the ups and downs of competition, and the overall wonderful energy he brought to the team. We are proud to say that we would not have achieved so much if it wasn’t for his contributions.

“Our players, staff, and beloved fans wish Matumbaman the very best in his new endeavours and will be cheering for him wherever the next step in life’s journey takes him. Thank you, Matu!”

Matumbaman first gained fame by winning the Assembly Summer 2014 in one of his earliest professional tournaments. He signed on with newcomers Team Liquid in autumn 2015, forming what would become the longest-lasting five-man roster in Dota 2 history.

Among his accomplishments with Team Liquid was reaching the Macau Major championship, a runner-up finish at the Disneyland Paris Major and a first-place finish in The International 2019 Europe Qualifier. Team Liquid would finish 17-18th at The International.
