DOTA: Stage set for second group stage of Elite League Season 2

beastcoast, 1win and Shopify Rebellion won their matches Saturday to grab the third through fifth spots in the initial stage and locked in spots in the second group stage of the Elite League Season 2 in Lima, Peru.

BOOM Esports, Execration and nouns claimed the final three berths by winning two matches later Saturday.

The Rebellion defeated Cuyes Esports in two maps, winning in 40 minutes on green and 44 minutes on red. Crhistian “Pakazs” Savina of Peru led the win with a kills/deaths/assists mark of 12/3/9.

The red team won all three matches as beastcoast turned back Yellow Submarine 2-1. After the latter took the first map in 37 minutes, beastcoast responded with victories in 36 and 27 minutes. Luis “Lumpy” Yausin of the all-Peru lineup had a KDA of 8/2.3/9.3 for the winners.

1win and HEROIC traded map victories to begin their match. 1win, which was on green throughout, prevailed in 36 minutes and fell in 39 minutes, before taking the final map in 32 minutes. Ilya “CHIRA_JUNIOR” Chirtsov of Russia had a KDA of 8.3/5.3/12.7 for 1win.

nouns won its first match of the day 2-0 over Evil Rabbit to stay alive, and then defeated HEROIC 2-0 as well. Execration also had a perfect day, sweeping Apex Genesis and Cuyes Esports by 2-0 scores. BOOM Esports survived with a pair of 2-1 wins, topping MOUZ and then Yellow Submarine.

OG and Team Liquid previously snared the top two spots heading into the second group stage.

The initial group stage of the $800,000 Dota 2 event uses the Swiss system for all 16 teams, with best-of-three matches. The top eight teams advanced to the second group stage, with the remaining teams eliminated.

The second phase, which runs Sunday through Wednesday, will have the remaining eight teams play a round robin of best-of-two matches. The top four teams move into the playoffs’ upper bracket, while the lower four teams head to the playoffs’ lower bracket.

The double-elimination playoffs run Friday through Aug. 4, with all matches best-of-three until the best-of-five final. The winning side will receive $240,000, and the runner-up will get $120,000.
