DOTA: Aurora, Xtreme move on at The International 2024

Aurora and Xtreme Gaming each rallied for 2-1 victories to advance in the lower bracket of The International 2024 on Tuesday in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Aurora defeated HEROIC and Xtreme topped Team Spirit after HEROIC and Spirit kicked off the day with victories in the first round of the lower bracket.

HEROIC, Spirit, beastcoast and G2 x iG were eliminated from the competition.

The playoffs began with 16 teams seeded in either the upper or lower bracket based on the results of the group stage and seeding deciders. The winners of the decider matches began the main event in the upper bracket, and the losing sides started in the lower bracket.

The main event runs through Sunday. All matches are best-of-three until the grand final, which is best-of-five.

The champions will earn 45 percent of the prize pool, which began with a base of $1.6 million and will increase based on sales within the game.

On Tuesday, HEROIC earned a 31-minute win on red before Aurora pulled out a 46-minute win on red and a 45-minute victory on green. On the do-or-die final map, Ukrainian Artem “lorenof” Melnick put up a 7-0-8 kills-deaths-assists ratio to lead Aurora.

In similar fashion, Team Spirit earned a 44-minute win on red before Xtreme Gaming answered with wins in 26 and 29 minutes on red. Guo “Xm” Hongcheng of China posted an average K-D-A of 7.7/2.3/9.0 for Xtreme.

In the previous round, HEROIC defeated beastcoast 2-1. After beastcoast opened with a 54-minute win on red, HEROIC pulled out wins in 33 minutes and 55 minutes on green. Brazil’s Joao Gabriel “4nalog” Giannini Santos helped HEROIC on the final map with an 11-3-21 K-D-A.

Team Spirit swept their first-round match against G2 x iG 2-0, with a 35-minute victory on green and a 31-minute triumph on red. Denis “Larl” Sigitov of Russia had a flawless match, totaling 19 kills and 23 assists without a death between the two maps.

The tournament resumes Friday with four matches:
–Team Liquid vs. Cloud9 (upper-bracket semifinals)
–Tundra Esports vs. Gaimin Gladiators (upper-bracket semifinals)
–BetBoom Team vs. Team Falcons (lower-bracket Round 3)
–Aurora vs. Xtreme Gaming (lower-bracket Round 3)
