CSGO: G2 Esports tops Team Vitality to win IEM Dallas title

G2 Esports dropped its first game of the weekend but defeated Team Vitality 2-1 in the finals of the 2024 Intel Extreme Masters Dallas event on Sunday.

G2 receives $100,000, 1,400 BLAST Premier points and a spot in the 2024 IEM Cologne event in Germany, scheduled for Aug. 7-18.

Sixteen teams competed in the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament’s double-elimination group stage. The teams were split into a pair of eight-team groups, with the winner of each group advancing to the playoff semifinals. The group runners-up advanced to the quarterfinals as the high seeds, while the third-place finishers faced them as the low seeds.

Coming off 2-0 wins in the quarterfinals and semifinals, G2 prevailed 19-16 on Inferno in overtime, but Vitality rebounded with a 16-13 overtime win on Anubis. In the decisive game on Nuke, G2 posted a 13-8 victory to clinch the title.

For the winners, Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov of Russia dominated with a match-high 83 kills on a plus-30 kills-to-deaths differential. Teammate Nikola “NiKo” Kovac of Bosnia and Herzegovina finished with 71 kills on a plus-10.

Frenchman Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut led the way for Vitality with 66 kills on a plus-7 and teammate William “mezii” Merriman of the United Kingdom added 64 kills on a plus-6.
