CSGO: FaZe Clan, CPHF improve to 3-0 at Stockholm

The Copenhagen Flames and FaZe Clan improved to 3-0 Wednesday and advanced out of the Challengers Stage of the PGL Major Stockholm event.

FaZe Clan swept Virtus.pro while Copenhagen defeated Heroic 2-1 in Round 3 High Matches.

FaZe Clan and CPHF advance to the Legends Stage.

Team Spirit, BIG, ENCE and Entropiq were winners in the round’s Mid Matches. Astralis and paiN earned wins in the Low Matches to play another day.

The PGL Major Stockholm 2021 is a CS:GO major championship with a total prize pool of $2 million. The winner also nets 4,000 Blast Premier points and an auto bid to the World Final 2021.

The New Challengers Stage runs through Friday, with the top eight teams proceeding to The New Legends Stage. The bottom eight teams are eliminated. Elimination and advancement matches are best of three. All other matches are best of one.

The New Legends Stage runs Oct. 30-Nov. 2 and operates the same way. The top eight teams proceeding to The New Champions Stage, which is a single-elimination bracket (best of three) held Nov. 4-7.

On Wednesday, FaZe Clan defeated VP 16-14 on Mirage and 16-6 on Ancient. Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken of Canada led FaZe with 48 kills and a plus-18 kills-to-deaths differential.

Copenhagen opened with a 16-7 win on Vertigo but Heroic responded with a 16-11 win on Nuke. CPHF clinched with a 16-12 decision on Overpass despite trailing 8-0 to open the third map and 10-5 at intermission. Fredrik “roeJ” Jorgensen had 58 kills and a plus-12 differential to lead CPHF in the all-Denmark battle.

Martin “stavn” Lund led Heroic with 66 kills and a plus-18 differential.

In the best-of-one Mid Matches, Spirit defeated TYLOO 16-3 on Overpass, BIG topped Renegades 16-9 on Inferno, ENCE downed MOUZ 16-11 on Nuke, and Entropiq beat Movistar Riders 16-12 on Mirage.

Spirit, BIG, ENCE and Entropiq will play in Thursday’s High Matches.

In the elimination Low Matches, Astralis defeated Godsent 16-3 on Nuke and 16-11 on Vertigo. Every Dane finished in the positive on K-D differential for Astralis, led by Emil “Magisk” Reif’s 43 kills and plus-13.

paiN had to rally to defeat Sharks Esports, first losing 19-16 on Vertigo before rebounding, 22-20 on Ancient and 16-4 on Nuke. paiN was a round away from elimination, trailing 15-9 on Ancient. They rattled off six straight rounds to force overtime.

Rafael “saffee” Costa led paiN in the all-Brazilian contest, recording 75 kills and a plus-26 differential. No Sharks player finished with a positive K-D differential.
