At least one important voice in the world of Counter-Strike has already weighed in on the prospect of Counter-Strike 2 making its way to the esports community.

Alex Inglot, Commissioner of the ESL Pro League, spoke Wednesday about initial impressions of the game, and offered up that the game could very well be an upgrade for esports competitions.

“The global Counter-Strike community has been anticipating this new edition for weeks and there’s high excitement from pro players and teams now that it has been announced,” Inglot said. “Based on what we’ve seen so far, Counter-Strike 2 looks to offer visual and technical changes that have the potential to further upgrade the competitive experience. Based on this first impression, esports fans can expect Counter-Strike matches with new, fast-paced strategies, executed in the upgraded visual landscape of the Source 2 engine.”

The new game, announced by game publisher Valve earlier Wednesday, will be the latest edition of their popular game series “Counter-Strike,” which is a mainstay in the esports scene.

Counter-Strike is a multi-player, first-person shooter game that first made its debut in 2000 as an offshoot of the game Half-Life. Counter Strike 2 will be the fifth game in the main series.
