G2 Esports swept FaZe Clan 2-0 on Saturday in a Round 4 high match to get out of the elimination stage at the Perfect World Shanghai Major in China.
With the victory, G2 Esports secured a spot in the playoff stage, where the top eight teams from elimination play will be gunning for the first-place prize of $500,000.
After downing FaZe Clan 13-4 on Inferno, G2 Esports prevented any chance of a comeback with a 13-3 win on Mirage.
The elimination stage of the $1.25 million Counter-Strike 2 competition runs through Sunday in a Swiss System format, with the eight teams that don’t reach the playoffs getting eliminated. Elimination and advancement matches are best-of-three, and all other matches are best-of-one.
Playoffs begin Thursday, and the grand final is set for Dec. 15.
Joining G2 Esports in the playoffs are Team Liquid and Team Spirit, 2-1 winners of their respective Round 4 high matches on Saturday. Liquid sandwiched victories on Mirage (13-2) and Anubis (13-5) around a loss on Nuke (13-10) to beat MIBR, while Spirit took Ancient 16-14, fell 13-10 on Mirage and prevailed 13-7 on Dust II to edge HEROIC.
In Round 4 low matches, MOUZ blanked 3DMAX 2-0, Natus Vincere did the same to GamerLegion and FURIA Esports clipped paiN Gaming.
Elimination action concludes Sunday with three Round 5 matches to determine the final three teams that will be moving on to the playoffs:
