Tim Petrovic turned in a 4-under-par 66 on Saturday to maintain his lead after two rounds of the Shaw Charity Classic in Calgary, Alberta, holding a two-shot lead as he tries for the wire-to-wire victory.

A 10-time runner-up, it would be Petrovic’s first win on the Champions Tour.

Petrovic sits at 12-under 128, two shots ahead of Ken Duke, who carded a 64 in the second round at Canyon Meadows Golf & Country Club. Four players are four shots back in a tie for third, including Scott Dunlap, who carded a career-best round of 62.

Petrovic certainly had to scramble for his 66, posting seven birdies but also three bogeys.

“Obviously, today wasn’t perfect,” Petrovic said. “We always want that perfect round. Made a couple sloppy bogeys that started with a couple bad drives. You know, I bounced back after the bogeys and made a birdie just to keep the round going. I think that was important because you don’t want to make a bogey, make a bunch of pars and then get another one.”

In hot pursuit is Duke, who also carded seven birdies against just one bogey. The tournament is Duke’s 100th on the Champions Tour.

“The weather was absolutely perfect,” Duke said. “It was good to get off to a good start and obviously finish well because all those holes are very difficult. Just had to hang in there.”

But the round of the day belonged to Dunlap, who opened with a 70 on Friday and leapt 45 spots up the leaderboard to within striking distance after a bogey-free round of eight birdies. Not a bad way to celebrate his 60th birthday three days ago.

“Even though I played last week, I just turned 60 this week, so I’m old enough to know that you just start fresh every day,” Dunlap said. “Enjoy the good ones when you get them and try not to think too much of the bad ones. I did play better last week, hopefully found a little something something.

“It was kind of fun to have one of those rounds.”
