Jeremiah Masoli will try to continue his scintillating play and clinch a postseason berth for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday when his team hosts the B.C. Lions.
Masoli was named the CFL’s top performer of the week on Tuesday and one of the league’s top performers for October the following day. These honors came on the heels of Masoli throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns in the Tiger-Cats’ 39-23 victory over the Edmonton Elks last Friday.
Masoli has eclipsed 300 passing yards in each of his last three games for Hamilton (6-5), which would secure an East Division playoff spot with a win or tie at home against B.C. (4-7).
“Our receivers are so super-talented. They were just getting open and running away from guys,” Masoli said. “We’ve been building to get to here this whole season.
“It doesn’t matter where we start on that field, we will be able to flip the field. We are building that confidence for the home stretch.”
Tim White, who leads the team with 41 receptions, reeled in six passes for 89 yards and a touchdown against Edmonton.
Don Jackson made an impact out of the backfield, rushing for 120 yards and a score versus the Elks.
The Tiger-Cats will look to keep their high-octane offense churning against B.C., which has yielded at least 30 points in each contest of its five-game losing streak.
Lions quarterback Michael Reilly threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in a 31-29 overtime loss to the Toronto Argonauts last Saturday.
“Certainly the situation we’re in, on a long losing streak and playoff seeding getting finalized in three more games, we have to take advantage of our opportunities,” Reilly said. “We’re not eliminated. We still control everything, It’s in our hands. But these next three weeks when we get chances, we’ve got to make all of them.”
B.C. will host the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton to finish the season.
