The Toronto Ultra and Los Angeles Thieves earned victories on Friday in qualifying for the Call of Duty League Stage 3 Major, leaving them tied for second place with idle OpTic Texas.
Toronto (5-1) swept the last-place Boston Breach 3-0, while Los Angeles (5-1) topped the Seattle Surge 3-1. OpTic Texas are also 5-1, just behind the Atlanta FaZe (6-0).
All 12 CDL teams are playing seven qualifying matches ahead of the Stage 3 Major, scheduled for May 16-19 in Toronto. Every team will advance to the double-elimination tournament, with the qualifying matches determining seeding.
Each qualifier win is worth 10 points. The prize pool for the tournament (money and CDL points) has yet to be announced.
Toronto won the Stage 1 Major in January. The Atlanta FaZe won the Stage 2 Major in March.
On Friday, the Ultra defeated the Breach 250-197 on Karachi Hardpoint, 6-4 on 6 Star Search and Destroy and 3-0 on Invasion Control.
The Surge opened with a 250-150 triumph on Vista Hardpoint before the Thieves captured the next three maps: 6-4 on Karachi Search and Destroy, 3-1 on Karachi Control and 250-247 on Rio Hardpoint.
Week 5 qualifying continues Saturday with three matches:
