CALLOFDUTY: OpTic, Ultra pull off sweeps in Stage 4 Major qualifying

OpTic Texas and the Toronto Ultra won their matches via sweeps in the second day of qualifying on the Call of Duty League Stage 4 Major on Saturday.

The Los Angeles Thieves and New York Subliners also won their matches, each going to five maps.

All 12 teams taking part in qualifying will make the Major 4 bracket, to be held June 27-30 in Burbank, Calif. Seeding will be determined by the qualifying matches, which run through June 23.

The tournament will have a double-elimination format, with all matches best-of-five until the grand final, which is best-of-seven. The winner will get 100 CDL points and the runner-up gets 75. The prize money has not been announced.

OpTic began its match with the Miami Heretics with a 250-179 win on Sub Base Hardpoint, followed with a 6-2 victory on Highrise Search & Destroy and clinched with a 3-0 verdict on Invasion Control. Amer “Pred” Zulbeari of Australia led the winners with 61 kills and a plus-21 kills/deaths differential. Adrian “MettalZ” Serrano of Spain had 46 kills for the Heretics, who had no players with a plus in differential.

The Ultra, who were playing the Vegas Legion in their second match of qualifying in two days, narrowly defeated the Legion 250-238 on Karachi Hardpoint. Next came a 6-3 victory on Rio Search & Destroy, and then a 3-1 conquest on Highrise Control. Thomas “Scrap” Ernst of the U.S. led Toronto with 61 kills, and teammate and countryman Dylan “Envoy” Hannon had a plus-6 differential. Giancarlo “oJohnny” Carrasco of the U.S. had a team-best 59 kills for Vegas, while Dillon “Attach” Price, also of the U.S., had a plus-4 differential.

The Thieves and Los Angeles Guerrillas played a back-and-forth match. The Thieves won 250-243 on Karachi Hardpoint and 6-3 on Rio Search & Destroy. The Guerrillas bounced back with victories ono Invasion Control (3-2) and Rio Hardpoint (250-218). The Thieves had an easier time in the clincher, Invasion Search & Destroy, winning 6-1. Kyle “Kremp” Haworth of the U.S. led the winners with 95 kills and a plus-10 differential, while Kevin “Fame” Bonanno of the U.S. had 93 kills and Conor “Diamondcon” Johst of Canada finished with a plus-7 differential.

The Subliners began their match with the Carolina Royal Ravens with a 250-182 win on Karachi Hardpoint, Carolina responded with a 6-0 victory on Rio Search & Destroy. The Ravens went ahead with a 3-2 win on Invasion Control, but New York recovered with a 250-116 victory on Vista Hardpoint and a 6-3 decision on Invasion Search & Destroy. Paco “Hydra” Rusiewiez of France dominated the match for the Subliners, putting up 111 kills and a plus-31 differential. Thomas “TJHaly” Haly of the U.S. led the Ravens with 87 kills and teammate Tyler “FelonY” Johnson, also of the U.S., was the only player on his team with a positive differential at plus-5.

–Atlanta FaZe vs. New York Subliners
–Vegas Legion vs. OpTic Texas
