The upcoming third season of the Call of Duty League moved closer to an 11-team schedule with Chicago’s slot possibly vacant.
Chicago’s CDL slot, previously named OpTic Chicago, is available after Hector “HECZ” Rodriguez purchased OpTic from NRG. That created a unification of OpTic Gaming and Team EnVyUs.
Washington Esports Ventures, which owns the Washington Justice of the Overwatch League, reportedly was interested in the Chicago CDL slot but pulled out of negotiations Wednesday, according to DBLTAP.
Dot Esports and CDL insider @Unscriiiptedd on Twitter both reported that an 11-team season is not only possible but closer to a reality.
The Chicago franchise, known as the Chicago Huntsman in 2020, finished in fourth place during CDL’s inaugural regular season and just missed out on playing for the championship when they were defeated by the Atlanta FaZe in the elimination finals.
This past season as OpTic Chicago, the team again finished fourth in the regular season before bowing out in the playoffs during the second elimination round.
