Immortals are moving their headquarters from Los Angeles to the Great Lakes Region, seeking to fill a need for esports in the region.

The organization announced Tuesday that it will put its hub in the Detroit area, with “spokes” in other cities and college towns in the region. The move will take place in early 2022.

Immortals also are set to add an all-women Valorant team, based in the Great Lakes hub, with their League of Legends squad remaining in Los Angeles

Immortals CEO Jordan Sherman, an alumnus of the University of Michigan, said in September that the region was a ripe market for competitive gaming, but needed more events. The organization appears ready to deliver.

Immortals’ entry into the area began Monday with Immortals x Wild Rift “Immortals Invasion” Takeover, which will run through Thursday in Ann Arbor, the home of the University of Michigan. Immortals also are supporting the university’s esports LAN event on Nov. 13 across 10 gaming titles.

“Immortals and Riot recognize the untapped potential for gaming and esports not only in the Great Lakes, but midwest collegiate towns as a whole,” said Chris Greeley, head of NAOCE Esports at Riot Games. “We are excited to create on-campus esports experiences for students with Wild Rift.”

Sherman said Immortals will satisfy the demand for esports in the area.

“Immortals is in a position to be the gateway of esports and gaming in the Great Lakes and to expose residents of all ages to very special and connective elements that gaming uniquely delivers,” he said.
