Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and goaltender Adin Hill made 31 saves as the Vegas Golden Knights defeated Seattle 5-2 Saturday night, spoiling the Kraken’s home opener.

Shea Theodore added a goal and an assist, and Keegan Kolesar and Reilly Smith also scored for the Golden Knights, who earned their third win in as many games under new coach Bruce Cassidy. Jack Eichel had two assists.

Justin Schultz and Jaden Schwartz scored in the final 6:41, with Andre Burakovsky assisting on both goals, as the Kraken avoided the shutout in suffering their first regulation loss in three games this season. Goalie Martin Jones stopped 19 of 24 shots before being relieved by Philipp Grubauer at the start of the third period. Grubauer stopped all six shots he faced.

Kolesar opened the scoring just 12 seconds into the contest. William Carrier stole the puck in the offensive zone as a Kraken defender stumbled along the boards and fed Kolesar in the slot for a one-timer.

Marchesssault made it 2-0 with a power-play goal at 3:07. Nicolas Roy drove down the right wing unchecked before sending a cross-ice pass to Marchessault just outside the crease and he slammed the puck into the open side of the net. Alex Pietrangelo also got an assist.

The Golden Knights scored three times in the final 6:05 of the second period to pull away.

The first came on the power play as Mark Stone took a pass from Eichel down low to the left of the net and pushed the puck across the top of the crease to Smith, who jammed it home at 13:55.

Marchessault got his second at 17:11 on a sharp-angle shot from the right wing that snuck between Jones’ elbow and the near post. Chandler Stephenson and Theodore were credited with assists.

Theodore tallied at 19:43 on a wrist shot from the high slot, with Phil Kessel and Eichel getting the helpers.
