WTA: WTA roundup: Alycia Parks stuns Maria Sakkari at Ostrava

Alycia Parks delivered 15 aces and recorded the first Top 10 win of her career with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-5 triumph over fourth-seeded Maria Sakkari of Greece to reach the quarterfinals of the Agel Open at Ostrava, Czech Republic.

The 21-year-old Parks, ranked 144th in the world, hit 59 winners against 26 unforced errors while stunning Sakkari, ranked seventh in the world. Parks will next face Czech Barbora Krejcikova, who won in a walkover when No. 6 seed Belinda Bencic of Switzerland withdrew due to a left foot injury.

Czech Tereza Martincova led 7-6 (3), 1-0 when third-seeded Anett Kontaveit of Estonia withdrew due to lower back pain. Ekaterina Alexandrova beat No. 5 seed and fellow Russian Daria Kasatkina 6-1, 7-6 (1) and Caty McNally notched a 6-1, 3-6, 6-1 win over Czech Karolina Muchova.

Top-seeded Ons Jabeur had six aces while rolling to a 6-1, 6-3 victory in 55 minutes over Evgeniya Rodina of Russia to reach the quarterfinals in her homeland of Tunisia.

Second-seeded Veronika Kudermetova of Russia moved on with a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Poland’s Magdalena Frech.

Japan’s Moyuka Uchijima outlasted fourth-seeded Croatian Petra Martic 7-5, 7-6 (5). Slovenia’s Tamara Zidansek also posted an upset with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 win over sixth-seeded Russian Anastasia Potapova.
