NHL: Islanders sign veteran G Cory Schneider, two others

The New York Islanders signed goaltender Cory Schneider, forward Nikita Soshnikov and defenseman Parker Wotherspoon to one-year contracts on Wednesday.

Financial terms were not announced.

Schneider, 36, played one game with the Islanders last season, making 27 saves and earning the win. The 14-year veteran played in 30 games with the Bridgeport Islanders of the American Hockey League, and had a 14-11-4 record to go with a .921 save percentage and 2.71 goals against average.

He was a first-round pick of the Vancouver Canucks in the 2004 NHL Draft and has played in 410 career games (389 starts) in the league with the Canucks, New Jersey Devils and Islanders. He has a career record of 171-159-58 with a 2.43 GAA and .918 save percentage. He was a 2016 All-Star selection.

Soshnikov, 28, is returning to the NHL after three seasons in Russia’s Kontinental Hockey League. He has appeared in 87 career NHL games with the Toronto Maple Leafs (2015-18) and St. Louis Blues (2018-19), tallying 16 points (eight goals, eight assists).

The Islanders selected Wotherspoon, 25, in the fourth round of the 2015 NHL Draft. He has spent his career with the Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL and registered 24 points (three goals, 21 assists) in 57 games last season.
