Connecticut Sun forward Brionna Jones was named the 2022 WNBA Sixth Player of the Year, signifying the league’s top reserve, on Thursday.

Jones received 53 of 56 votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters. The remaining three votes went to Chicago Sky forward/center Azura Stevens (two) and Washington Mystics forward Myisha Hines-Allen (one).

She appeared in all 36 of Connecticut’s regular-season games, coming off the bench in 29 of them. She averaged 13.8 points, 5.1 rebounds and 1.22 steals in 25.1 minutes per game. She ranked second in the WNBA in offensive rebounds (2.6 per game).

The 26-year-old scored a season-high 21 points twice during the season and grabbed nine rebounds three times.

Last season, she was named the league’s Most Improved Player. She is the third member of the Sun to win Sixth Player of the Year, joining Jonquel Jones (2018) and Renee Montgomery (2012).

The Sun are tied 1-1 in their best-of-five playoff semifinal series against the Sky. Game 3 will be played on Sunday in Uncasville, Conn.
