Gio Urshela hit a two-out, two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th inning Monday night to give the Minnesota Twins a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers in Minneapolis.

Detroit took a 3-2 lead off Twins reliever Griffin Jax (5-2) with one out in the top of the inning when Akil Baddoo singled in Willi Castro, who was placed on second base to start the inning.

Minnesota answered off Detroit reliever Alex Lange (4-2), tying the game at 3-3 on a one-out single by Jose Miranda before Urshela sent the first pitch he saw over the wall in center field one out later.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the second, taking a 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout by Tucker Barnhart after Jeimer Candelario walked to open the inning and moved to third on a Castro single with one out.

Detroit then took a 2-0 lead in the fourth when Barnhart drove home Miguel Cabrera on an RBI single with two outs. Cabrera reached on another leadoff walk then took second when Castro was hit by a pitch.

Still without a run with one out and nobody on in the bottom of the eighth, Minnesota rallied with three straight singles off Tigers reliever Michael Fulmer to load the bases. Miranda then singled to right to score Jorge Polanco and Carlos Correa to tie the game at 2-2.

The Twins looked as if they had loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth after Correa walked, but Nick Gordon strayed too far off third base during the pitch and was thrown out by Barnhart to get Detroit out of the inning.

Detroit starter Tarik Skubal, the subject of trade rumors as Tuesday’s trade deadline approaches, was pulled from the game after five scoreless innings during which he allowed just three hits and threw 77 pitches. But a short time later, the Tigers announced Skubal was taken out because of left arm fatigue.
