The New York Mets acquired catcher Michael Perez from the Pittsburgh Pirates for cash considerations on Saturday.

Perez, 29, was designated for assignment by Pittsburgh on Friday after batting .150 with six home runs and 11 RBIs in 39 games this season.

Perez is a lifetime .175 hitter with 15 homers, 58 RBIs and 159 strikeouts in 193 contests with the Tampa Bay Rays (2018-20) and Pirates.

The Mets needed catching depth with James McCann (oblique) on the injured list and Tomas Nido dealing with a bruised left hand.

It is the second straight day the two teams have swung a deal. New York acquired infielder Daniel Vogelbach from Pittsburgh on Friday in exchange for right-hander Colin Holderman.

The Pirates optioned Holderman to Triple-A Indianapolis on Saturday.
