The New York Yankees agreed to a minor league deal Sunday with veteran utilityman Marwin Gonzalez, multiple outlets reported.

Gonzalez, 33, will earn $1.15 million if he makes the major league roster.

He split last season with the Boston Red Sox and Houston Astros, batting .199 with five homers and 28 RBIs in 91 games while seeing time defensively at first, second and third base, shortstop and right and left field.

Gonzalez is a career .256 hitter with 101 home runs and 397 RBIs in 1,053 games with the Astros (2012-18, 2021), Minnesota Twins (2019-20) and Red Sox.

–The Twins signed right-handed reliever Joe Smith to a one-year contract. Terms were not disclosed.

Smith, who turns 38 on Tuesday, appeared in 50 games for the Astros and Seattle Mariners last season, going 4-4 with a 4.99 ERA and 34 strikeouts in 39 2/3 innings.

He is 54-33 with a 3.09 ERA and 30 saves in 832 games with seven teams since his 2007 debut.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins put right-hander Kenta Maeda (elbow) on the 60-day injured list. He is recovering from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent Sept. 1.

–The Texas Rangers agreed to a one-year, $4.5 million deal with veteran right-hander Garrett Richards, according to multiple reports on Sunday.

The contract also includes a $9 million club option for 2023 with a $1 million buyout.

Richards, 33, went 7-8 with a 4.87 ERA in 40 appearances (22 starts) for the Boston Red Sox in 2021. He is expected to open the season in the bullpen for Texas.

Overall, Richards is 54-49 with a 3.81 ERA in 277 appearances (150 starts) over 11 seasons with the Los Angeles Angels (2011-18), San Diego Padres (2019-20) and Red Sox.

–The San Francisco Giants added three pitchers — left-hander Matthew Boyd and right-handers Carlos Martinez and Taylor Williams.

Boyd reportedly received a one-year, $5.2 million deal that also includes $2.3 million in bonuses for games started. He isn’t expected to be available until June after undergoing left forearm surgery last September.

Boyd, 31, went 3-9 with a 3.89 ERA in 15 starts for the Detroit Tigers last season. He is 37-62 overall with a 4.96 ERA in 149 career appearances (145 starts) with the Toronto Blue Jays (2015) and Tigers (2015-21).

Martinez and Williams signed minor league deals with invitations to spring training. Martinez will reportedly receive $2.5 million if he makes the team with the ability to earn $1.5 million more in incentives.

Martinez, 30, spent the past nine seasons with the St. Louis Cardinals and was a National League All-Star in 2015 and 2017. He was 4-9 with a 6.23 ERA in 16 starts last season before undergoing season-ending thumb surgery in July.

Martinez is 62-52 with a 3.74 ERA in 274 appearances (139 starts).

Williams, 30, is 3-5 with a 5.29 ERA in 97 relief appearances in five seasons with the Milwaukee Brewers (2017-19), Seattle Mariners (2020), San Diego Padres (2020-21) and Miami Marlins (2021).

–The Mariners signed left-handed reliever Ryan Buchter to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The 35-year-old Buchter has a 17-6 record with two saves and a 3.16 ERA in 285 career games with six teams.

He made 18 appearances last season with the Arizona Diamondbacks before being released on Aug. 20, 2021. He was 0-2 with a 6.61 ERA.
