Charles O’Bannon Jr. tied a career high with 19 points and Eddie Lampkin added a 10-point, 12-rebound double-double that included two key, late free throws as TCU outlasted Oklahoma State 77-73 on Tuesday in a wild Big 12 Conference game in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Cowboys, who trailed by as many as 13, scored 11 straight points over a 3 1/2-minute run to claw to within 70-69 with 2:04 to play. The Horned Frogs’ Damion Baugh canned a tough jumper with 1:44 left, and Emanuel Miller hit a free throw to push the TCU (16-5, 5-4 Big 12) lead to two possessions.
Moussa Cisse made one of two free throws with 1:03 to play to bring the Cowboys to within 73-70. After TCU missed two shots on its next possession, Cisse corralled a rebound and Oklahoma State called timeout. The Horned Frogs fouled Avery Anderson III, and he made the first of two free throws. Lampkin grabbed the rebound on the missed free throw, was fouled and converted both free throws with 19 seconds left.
Anderson hurried down the floor to sink a layup with 13 seconds to play, but TCU countered with a length-of-the-court pass that Miller turned into a dunk to put the game out of reach.
Miller added 16 points and Baugh had 15 for the Horned Frogs, who have won three of their past four games. TCU played without leading scorer Mike Miles, who missed his second consecutive game with a wrist injury.
Isaac Likekele led Oklahoma State (11-12, 4-7) with a season-high 19 points, 17 of which came in the second half. Anderson hit for 14 points for the Cowboys, who have dropped five of their past six games.
The Horned Frogs dominated the first six minutes of the game, running out to a 14-4 lead on the strength of a 12-2 run capped by JaKobe Coles’ 3-pointer. Oklahoma State fought back to forge a 17-16 lead at the 11:03 mark and went up 23-18 after Rondel Walker’s 3-pointer with 8:11 remaining.
The contest swung back to TCU, which rode eight points from Baugh to fashion a 37-29 advantage with 1:13 to play until halftime before heading to the break ahead 39-32.
Anderson led all scorers with 11 points in the first half. Miller and Baugh paced the Horned Frogs with nine points apiece.
