Ole Miss freshman Daeshun Ruffin will miss the remainder of the season due to a knee injury requiring surgery.

Ruffin was injured Tuesday in Ole Miss’ upset win over No. 25 LSU. He led the Rebels that night with 19 points in just 20 minutes.

“Daeshun was just hitting his stride and was establishing himself as one of the best point guards in the SEC,” Ole Miss head coach Kermit Davis said in a statement. “I feel badly for Daeshun, but I know he will attack rehab with a great maturity and will return stronger than ever next season. Our team has been very resilient all season long, and we expect no difference against a really good Florida team on Saturday.”

Ruffin, a Jackson, Miss., native, was the first McDonald’s High School All-American to sign with the Rebels in school history.

In 14 games this season, Ruffin averaged 12.6 points per game, second-most on the team, and led Ole Miss with 3.4 assists and 2.3 steals per contest.

Ole Miss was already missing Jarkel Joiner, who was averaging a team-high 13.6 points, since Jan. 8 due to a back injury.
