The Vancouver Whitecaps signed forward Brian White to a long-term contract extension on Thursday.
The deal includes four guaranteed years and a club option for a fifth year, the team announced.
“Brian has made a huge impact since joining the club last season and for his contributions, he has earned this new multi-year contract,” sporting director Axel Schuster said in a team release. “In addition to all the offensive numbers, Brian is our first line of defense and does a lot of the hard work that doesn’t always appear on the stats sheet. Needless to say, we are excited by what we have seen from Brian and where he will go from here.”
White, who turned 26 on Thursday, tallied a team-high 12 goals and five assists in 27 matches (23 starts) with the Whitecaps last season after arriving in a June 2 trade from the New York Red Bulls.
White has 27 goals and nine assists in 74 career games (55 starts) with the Red Bulls (2018-21) and Whitecaps.
Vancouver opens the 2022 MLS season on the road on Feb. 26 against the Columbus Crew.
