Northwestern’s home game against DePaul slated for Saturday was called off Thursday due to positive COVID-19 tests in DePaul’s program.
The game between Chicago-area non-conference rivals will not be made up.
“We will evaluate all potential options for a replacement opponent and updates will be communicated if/when available,” Northwestern’s program said in a statement on Twitter.
It marked at least the third game featuring major-conference teams to be scrapped. No. 16 Seton Hall’s game against Iona at Madison Square Garden, and No. 15 Ohio State’s meeting with No. 21 Kentucky, also scheduled for Saturday, were canceled Thursday due to COVID spread in the Pirates’ and Buckeyes’ programs, respectively.
His school’s cancellation led Iona coach Rick Pitino to take to Twitter to look for a replacement opponent — including Kentucky, his old program.
