The Cleveland Browns reportedly are down to their third-string quarterback as Saturday’s home game against he Las Vegas Raiders approaches.
According to multiple reports, backup QB Case Keenum on Thursday joined starter Baker Mayfield on the COVID/reserve list after testing positive for the virus, leaving Nick Mullens as the only QB remaining on the active roster.
Mullens was activated from the Browns’ practice squad and tight end David Njoku returned from the COVID list, but Mayfield was not available again, and his chances of facing the Raiders appear slim. Mayfield tested positive earlier this week.
Mayfield and Keenum were among 20 Browns’ players on the COVID list Thursday, according to cleveland.com. Two coaches — including head coach Kevin Stefanski — also are on the list after testing positive.
Safety Ronnie Harrison Jr. was added to the COVID list Thursday, and tight end Stephen Carlson was activated from it.
Mullens, 26, is a fourth-year quarterback out of Southern Mississippi. He hasn’t played this season but has appeared in 19 games (16 starts) lifetime, all for the San Francisco 49ers. He has completed 387 of 600 passes for 4,714 yards and 25 touchdowns, with 22 interceptions.
