NBA: Pelicans bounce back, defeat Mavericks in rematch

Brandon Ingram had 24 points and 12 assists and two teammates added double-doubles as the visiting New Orleans Pelicans defeated the Dallas Mavericks 107-91 on Friday night.

Jonas Valanciunas added 14 points and 11 rebounds, Willy Hernangomez had 12 points and 14 rebounds and Herbert Jones and Devonte’ Graham scored 13 each as the Pelicans bounced back from a 139-107 loss to the Mavericks two nights earlier.

Luka Doncic had 21 points and 10 rebounds, Jalen Brunson scored 16, Maxi Kleber had 13 and Tim Hardaway Jr. 12 for Dallas, which shot 40.5 percent from the floor after shooting a franchise-record 68.7 percent Wednesday.

The Mavericks led by four points at halftime, but Jones made two jumpers as the Pelicans took a 53-50 lead.

Dorian Finney-Smith’s 3-pointer briefly put Dallas back on top, but Valanciunas had four points during a 9-0 run that gave New Orleans a 63-54 lead.

Brunson answered with a jumper, but the Pelicans built the lead to as many as 13 points before another Brunson basket left New Orleans with a 79-68 lead at the end of the period.

The Pelicans scored the first six points of the fourth quarter to increase the lead to 17.

The Mavericks led 19-14 at the end of the first quarter. Dallas took a 9-2 lead before Ingram scored the Pelicans’ first field goal with 6:24 left.

Trey Murphy III’s 3-pointer pulled New Orleans within three before Trey Burke’s layup left the Mavericks with a 19-14 lead at the end of the period.

Dallas scored the first five points of the second quarter, but the Pelicans followed with an 8-0 run to get within 24-22.

The Mavericks pushed the margin to seven before Jones’ layup completed a 9-0 run that gave New Orleans a 36-34 lead.

Dallas responded with a 9-0 run before Graham made two 3-pointers to help the Pelicans get within 48-44 at halftime.
