The Texas Rangers officially introduced All-Star and Gold Glove winner Marcus Semien as their new second baseman on Wednesday.

The Rangers signed the 31-year-old free agent to a seven-year contract through 2028, with multiple reports pegging the value of the deal at $175 million.

“Marcus’ reputation around the game is impeccable. He’s a leader in every clubhouse he steps into, respected for the way he goes about his work and how he treats others,” Rangers president of baseball operations Jon Daniels said in a news release. “There are few players in the game who garner the level of respect that he does from teammates and opponents alike. We’re thrilled to add a player of his caliber to the organization.”

Texas general manager Chris Young called Semien “an excellent fit for the Rangers organization from a talent, culture, and leadership standpoint.”

Semien, who finished third in the American League Most Valuable Player voting in both 2019 with Oakland and 2021 with Toronto, won Silver Slugger and Gold Glove honors for the first time last season.

He batted .265 with career highs in homers (45) and RBIs (102) and led the majors in extra-base hits (86), games played (162) and plate appearances (724) with the Blue Jays in 2021.

Semien is a career .256/.324/.444 hitter with 160 home runs, 482 RBIs and 582 runs scored in 1,020 games over nine seasons with the Chicago White Sox (2013-14), Athletics (2015-20) and Blue Jays.
